When Robert Kennedy saw a cowardly act, he would say, “The hottest places in hell are reserved for those people who in a time of moral decision maintained their neutrality.” At the Regional Water Board meeting, I watched Ozzie Silna, John Mazza and Steve Uhring stand silent on Regional Water’s draconian prohibition that could cost their neighbors dearly. In fact, when it was time to speak, they got in Ozzie’s car and left, while their fellow citizens stayed until late that evening, waiting for the opportunity to express their opinions.
The irony of this is that a month ago, Steve Uhring drove all the way to the Coastal Commission hearing in San Diego to testify against the kids having temporary lighting for 16 night games. And Ozzie Silna sits on the Baykeeper board that voted to sue Malibu to keep it from building Legacy Park and putting a wastewater plant in the Civic Center. So we know how this gang stands on parks, kids, and local control, but where do they stand on the Regional Water’s power grab?
Steve Uhring has never been a clinging vine when it comes to blasting anyone and everyone with whom he disagrees. In fact, Uhring and Silna supported the Coastal Commission’s right to dictate our Local Coastal Plan. Is this history repeating itself? When you see John Mazza, Steve Uhring, and Ozzie Silna, be sure to ask them where they stand. And if they don’t give you a straight answer, remind them of what Robert Kennedy said.
