THE HIP GET HITCHED
Their fans include savvy scenesters like Gwen Stefani, Sandra Bullock and the Olsen Twins. So when Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren invite you to a wedding, you’re sure to say, “I do.” The Dutch masters of design threw themselves a full-blown big day bash on the grounds of a flower-filled estate in Holmby Hills. The occasion? To celebrate their latest clothing creations, not an ultra-exclusive, high-priced collection, but a smart, luxe-for-less line specially made for the swell Swedish department chain H&M.
Lara Flynn Boyle and Kanye West were among the clothes-conscious celebs lining up for stylish affair. On the fashion front, they were mixing it up more than the DJs at Les Deux on a Saturday night. Ashley Olsen came decked out in an Oscar-worthy black gown. Owen Wilson came clad for comfort. And Carmen Electra, Michele Hicks and China Chow sported selections from the new collection.
A 1960s-era white Rolls Royce Silver Cloud was parked in the expansive drive while the pathways were lined with flickering votives and strewn with thousands of white rose petals. The ceremony symbolizing Victor & Rolf’s “union” with the retailer was fit for a king-and why not, after all these two are fashion royalty.
After a bit of bubbly and a few tasty truffles, it was show time. Guests made their way into a huge white tent, which was part wedding chapel and part runway, complete with a billowy white satin backdrop, a 12-foot wedding cake and shimmering crystal chandeliers.
The lights went down, the music went up; and on cue, a parade of leggy V&R models graced the catwalk in a wide range of affordable outfits. There were sexy, satin hot pants, crimson-colored taffeta skirts and cool belted trenches. The showcase of modern, yet wearable, designs included classic pea coats, festive off-the-shoulder numbers and casual shirt dresses.
Victor & Rolf join a prestigious roster of other H&M style makers in their latest outfit outing. Stella McCartney and Karl Lagerfeld are among the in-demand designers who have come up with their own frugal and fabulous finds.
Descending from a sweeping staircase, a beaming blonde bride closed the show in a limited-edition $350 V&R for H&M wedding gown. She was squired by the evening’s two hosts, who changed into formal attire for their final bow. The glorious affair wrapped up with a shower of white confetti, a bouquet toss, more champagne, cake, and-of course-air kisses for the bride!
With V&R and H&M both flying high, you can be sure that this union will be a stellar one. And besides, with weddings like this, we can hardly wait to see who H&M will be tying the knot with next.
