John Palmer Low, Jr. of Calabasas died Sept. 7 at the age of 62.

Low, who worked in Malibu, ran John Palmer Low Designs. His exhibit design work allowed him to combine his love for history with creative projects. Low’s work can be seen nationally and internationally, with exhibits on King Tut and the Vatican.

Low valued his community and worked as a positive force in the Santa Monica Mountains, serving in a variety of capacities with the Las Virgenes Homeowners Association and local neighborhood organizations. He also loved exotic cars and had a passion for cooking and spending time with family and friends. Always eager to learn new things and overcome obstacles, Low defied his fear of heights by earning his private pilot’s license.

“John was passionate about many things,” Low’s family wrote. “An easy communicator, John was never at a loss for words on any subject.”

Low is survived by his wife of 40 years, Deborah; his parents Jack and Jane Low of Edina, Minn.; his sister Meredith Low of Minneapolis Minn; his sister-in-law Dennie Gordon; brother-in-law Geoff Schaaf; nephew Harrison Schaaf of Los Angeles; his mother- and father-in-law Dona and Doug Gordon of Indian Wells, Calif., and many friends across the country.

A memorial service will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation (alzfdn.org) or the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).
