I am shocked that anyone (“Double Standard” letter) would ever call PCH “often a very ugly highway.” People from all over the world come to Malibu to drive the PCH because of its natural beauty. To gaze at the ocean, dolphins, surfers, sunsets, and more. This is not, and I hope it will never be a well manicured road where all the homes and yards waste water to look the same. This is a community that has character and I hope to hang onto what is left of its whimsy and wildness. Many people move to Malibu to be closer to nature while others can only dream. Some ease their stressful commute by driving along the sea. This is not Calabasas (I have nothing against Calabasas) and I hope it will never be.
It breaks my heart that your eyes felt “assaulted” by the farm signs for Vital Zuman. Vital Zuman has a long history in Malibu and provides the community with local organic produce. My neighbor’s kids painted their mailbox with crooked letters and it’s adorable.
The answer to your double standard questions is simple. The flowers display, which was nice, was put in a residential area. The Vital Zuman farm is zoned commercial property and so they advertise how they want within the budget they have. I hope you can see the wonderful beauty of this community that so many of feel honored to drive every day.
