Second man in PCH Ferrari incident sentenced
Trevor Michael Karney this week received a 30-day jail sentence for his involvement in the Enzo Ferrari crash on Pacific Coast Highway in February 2006. Karney also received three years probation in addition to the jail sentence following a no contest plea Monday to charges he gave Sheriff’s deputies false information related to the crash.
In 2006, the rare and expensive Ferrari crashed on Pacific Coast Highway near Decker Canyon Road after being driven at a high rate of speed by Swedish national Bo Stefan Eriksson, a man with alleged ties to organized crime. Eriksson and Karney, a passenger in the vehicle, claimed a German man named Dietrich was driving the car, and that he ran away. The mysterious German was never found. Authorities determined last month that Karney is Dietrich, and arrested him.
Karney had fled to Ireland shortly after last year’s incident, and returned to the United States through Mexico, according to Sheriff’s officials.
Last November, Eriksson accepted a plea deal regarding embezzlement and grand theft charges related to his possession of the car. He is serving a three-year prison sentence.
