Kelsey Grammer

Malibu’s Kelsey Grammer is tuning up his vocal chords and is headed for the opera. The actor who made Dr. Frasier Crane a household name with a long running hit TV series will be making his opera debut in “Candide.”

The production is one of the highlights of the 2017-18 LA Opera season.

After making his mark on the small screen, you might be surprised to learn that Kelsey trained at the world famous Juilliard School.

He has been nominated for a whopping 16 Emmys, eight Golden Globe awards and a Tony. Acting accolades came in 2010 for his starring role in the musical “La Cage aux Folles” and in 2015 for his return to Broadway in “Finding Neverland.”

This time around, KG takes on two leading roles in Leonard Bernstein’s 1956 hit: Voltaire, author of the 1759 novella, and Dr. Pangloss, the famously upbeat guru to the book’s title character.

So, mark your cultural calendar, “Candide” will run from January 27 through February 18 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and tickets are already moving fast.

BIG 5-0 FOR CTG

Malibu theater lovers have a lot to celebrate this year as the Center Theater Group marks five decades of memorable performances. “Brilliant pieces of work come out of here,” said actor Edward James Olmos, who starred in the original 1978 production of “Zoot Suit,” which Malibu Seen reviewed way back in the day.

“Zoot” got a wonderful reboot this year as part of the CTG’s cultural milestone. It has also brought out notable performances, like the hit “Jersey Boys.” CTG performances can be found at various locations, notably the Mark Taper Forum and the Ahmanson.

The festivities kicked off earlier this year with a grand gala featuring sultry songbird Jennifer Hudson. She had the crowd on its feet after belting out “I Know Where I’ve Been” from “Hairspray.” An array of stars joined her for the festivities, including Matthew Broderick, Annette Benning, Frank Langella, Phylicia Rashad, Louis Gossett Jr. and Jimmy Smits. The VIP cocktail reception, gourmet dinner and performance raised a whopping $4 million to keep theater alive in LA.

QUEEN BEY’S VACAY

Music diva Beyoncé is spending her summer vacation in Malibu enjoying life and being the new mom of twins Rumi and Sir Carter.

The Grammy winning songbird is reportedly spending $400,000 a month on a super deluxe ocean view rental.

It’s likely the spot of a dramatic photo shoot depicting Beyoncé as a Madonna surrounded by crashing surf, hundreds of fresh flowers, flowing robes and her newborns in her arms.

The one-month-old twins join five-year-old sister Blue Ivy in the Carter family.

The superstar and record mogul husband Jay-Z are said to be thrilled “beyond words.”
