Local artist Carol Hernandez was one of 55 artists whose painting, “How To Make A Cheetah #1,” was selected by internationally known artist/sculptor Laddie John Dill to be displayed in the annual Topanga Canyon Gallery Juried Open Exhibit from Jan. 7 to Feb. 1.
“I feel doubly honored to win a place in this exhibit,” Hernandez said. “First, it gives an artist ‘bragging rights’ to be selected for this prestigious show, which drew entries from as far away as San Francisco and Georgia. Second, being selected by a judge of Laddie John Dill’s caliber adds stature to one’s status in the local art community.”
Hernandez paints animals and wildlife in oil and acrylic. She received a formal art education, graduated with honors and believes her best training has come from studying the work of her favorite artists.
She was able to view first hand works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet and many other paintings during her tenure at the J. Paul Getty Museum. At the Getty Hernandez managed the creation of the high-resolution digital archive of the museum’s art collection.
A reception and awards ceremony will be held at the gallery from 2-5 p.m. on Jan. 18. More information can be obtained by calling 310.455.7909.
