Two October Literary Luncheons hosted by Diesel, A Bookstore gave author Ann Patchett the No. 1 spot for fiction and Alice Waters the star billing for nonfiction. Two brand new novels are out and have gone directly onto the bestseller list: “The Almost Moon” by Alice Sebold (author of “Lovely Bones”) and “The Abstinence Teacher” by Tom Perrotta (“Little Children,” “Election Day”). Elizabeth Gilbert has one book on the fiction list, “Pilgrims,” and the classic “Eat, Pray, Love” remains on the nonfiction. Two titles sharing overlapping times, places and people are being purchased (often at the same time!): Clapton’s “Clapton” and Pattie Boyd’s “Wonderful Tonight.”
For the children, the hot new pop up book is “Star Wars Holocron” and the new Cornelia Funke “Igraine the Brave,” is just out in hardback. And, in anticipation of the new movie, “The Golden Compass” has popped onto the bestsellers again. Whatever age you are, it’s worth reading before you see the movie.
