Something to chew on

On Halloween, I dressed as the Tooth Fairy and chained the doors shut to the Los Angeles County Waterworks District building in Malibu because I had to take drastic steps to show my opposition to the fluoridation of Malibu and Topanga’s drinking water and my concerns were being ignored.

It is my belief that the Government (city, state county and federal) is acting like a bully by imposing its will on a mostly unsuspecting public. They refuse to provide evidence that the addition of hydrofluosilicic acid is safe (by certification as California law requires) and furthermore refuse to assume liability for health claims. If a foreigner came into our country and did this to our drinking water, they would labeled a terrorist.

The Public Health Service and American Dental Association have endorsed fluoridation since 1950 and since then have suppressed adverse scientific information about its effects. Why? Because they might “lose face” or have to admit they might be wrong? This has resulted in single-minded promotion but poor quality research and an apparent inability to flexibly reassess in the presence of unexpected new data.

Although there were three sheriffs and a full staff in the Waterworks District Building on Halloween, they went around the corner so that the Tooth Fairy, and her 15 supporters, would not make eye contact or communicate through the locked doors. Were they sissies to hide or under the belief that no one messes with the Tooth Fairy?

Since, once again, the doors of communication were shut, I dropped a statement from more than 1,000 professionals through the mail slot of LACWD into their lobby. These scientists have an abiding interest in ensuring that government public health and environmental policies are determined honestly, with full attention paid to the latest scientific research and to ethical principles.

Will they read it and respond? Any one can go online to www.fluorideactionnetwork.org to get details and to educate themselves.
