Oracle CEO buys Casa Malibu Inn

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is back on his Malibu shopping spree. The billionaire recently bought the 21-room Casa Malibu Inn for a reported $20 million.

The management of the Carbon Beach hotel told another local media source that it has a lease on the property, so no radical changes should be expected. Since 2003, Ellison has made numerous expensive Malibu property purchases, including the neighboring PierView Café and Windsail properties, five homes on Carbon Beach and David Foster’s house in Serra Retreat.

Crash near Moonshadows injures one

A Michigan resident received major head injuries as the result of a vehicle collision on Pacific Coast Highway Saturday near Moonshadows.

Malibu/Lost Hills Sgt. Phil Brooks said the driver of an Infiniti drove out of the parking lane and made a U-turn, and was hit by a Volkswagen Jetta. Austin Weisman, a 22-year-old passenger in the Infiniti, flew out of the car and injured his head. A second passenger in the car was not severely injured, but complained about being in pain.

Brooks said an investigation is ongoing. But he added that people are not supposed to make a U-turn from the parking lane, but rather move into the middle lane prior to making the turn.

New MTC Board member elected

Ten-year Malibu resident Marshall Thompson was recently elected to the Malibu Township Council Board of Directors. Thompson is the president of the Malibu Park Homeowners Association. He and his wife, Susan Tellem, are frequent critics of the current City Council.

“Malibu is a wonderful resource for millions of Los Angeles area residents and visitors,” Thompson said. “Reaching the goals of keeping it beautiful, safe and accessible are the responsibility of us all. I’m glad I was invited by the Malibu Township Council to do my part.”

The MTC was formed in 1947, and for many years it was the unofficial government of the Malibu area. Since the city was formed in 1991, the MTC’s purpose has changed. It now mostly serves as a political group in opposition to the current City Council.

Other MTC Board members include Jay Liebig, Lucille Keller, Jefferson Wagner, John Mazza, Rich Fox, Tami Clark.

Katz wrote that the festival must raise $10,000 by Feb. 15 in order secure the theater.
