Gun incident at Malibu High

Malibu High School officials and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a report that two former students brandished what appeared to be a gun near the school parking lot Friday afternoon, several hours after classes had ended.

In a letter to parents sent home with students Tuesday, principal Mark Kelly repeated that deputies and school officials have a zero tolerance for real or perceived weapons at or near the campus. Kelly wrote to parents that he sent the letter “not to alarm you, but rather to let you know we are ever-mindful of our responsibility to keep our children safe.”

Kelly praised the student and parent who reported the alleged incident to school officials. The student told officials that two ex-students in a car near the parking lot called out to him, and then brandished what appeared to be a gun.

Road work scheduled for Topanga Canyon, PCH

The California Department of Transportation will begin work on Sept. 29 to replace two storm-damaged drainage systems on Topanga Canyon Road between Falls Drive and Fernwood Pacific Drive. The work will be done between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and will take approximately two weeks.

The majority of the work will not require lane closures, but when lane closures are deemed necessary, there will be flaggers on site to direct traffic. According to Caltrans, replacement of the drains will increase storm water capture efficiency.

One southbound lane of Pacific Coast Highway, between Peña Creek Road and Topanga Canyon Boulevard will be closed Sept. 28, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for utility work by Southern California Edison Company.
