This true story is apt to scare you. It should. A friend of mine, driving home at 4 a.m., was chased and terrorized by an unknown car up Los Flores Canyon. As she started up Los Flores Canyon from Pacific Coast Highway, a large car or truck came out of “nowhere,” with brights on, at the immediate rear of her car. It proceeded to stay in almost touching contact with her car, as she raced up the canyon toward home. She raised her cell phone so they could see she was using it, as its lights went on. In actuality there was no coverage. As she turned, it turned. As she sped into a no-exit area, it raced away.
Maybe I would not write this, except a time ago I had a terribly frightening experience myself on Los Flores Canyon. As I was leisurely coming up the canyon, at about 1/2 mile up, there were two cars, about 1/2 block from each other, parked in the road, sideways, with their doors open, while blocking the road. It was 1:00 in the morning. As I came closer, I could see another car, further up the canyon, parked the same way. They had their lights on. There was a group of young men at each car. I sped past the first car and then the second, with my heart pounding out of my chest. They tried to stop me. There was very little room to get by, but when you are scared for your life, you make instant choices. I made it home and called the police. There is little they can do about it with no license plate numbers, etc. My question to my Malibu residents: Has anything like this happened to you in the canyons late at night, especially if you are a woman? What did you do? Thank you and many blessings to you in your late night driving.
