Pepperdine University junior Kayleen Hicks broke school records in both breaststroke races Saturday at the Malibu Invitational.
Hicks, the Waves’ high-point champion during the morning’s sprint meet with 41 points, posted a 1:04.47 in the 100 breaststroke and a 2:21.31 in the 200 breast in addition to clocking personal records in the 50 (24.23), and 100 freestyle (53.51), the 50 butterfly (26.87) and the 50 breaststroke (29.84).
Hicks’ new breaststroke marks broke the records previously held by senior Dani Kimmel. Kimmel’s old 100-breast record of 1:04.57 was set earlier in February of this year at the PCSC Championships, while her 200 breast standard of 2:22.29 had stood tall since 2007. Kimmel also set a personal best, placing 1st in the 50 fly (26.74).
Sophomore Madison Krall won Pepperdine’s high-point title at the evening’s distance meet with 27 points. Krall set personal bests in the 100 fly (59.94) and 200 free (1:56.66) and registered season best in the 200 individual medley (2:11.39) and the 200 fly (2:11.50).
Freshmen Shannon Adkins, Sarah Burris and Rachel Dekar also posted a few highlights of their own. Adkins recorded season bests in the 100 (54.57), 200 free (1:57.80) and the 200 back (2:10.75). Burris clocked personal records in the 50 back (29.49) and the 200 free at 2:02.94. Dekar lead the Waves to a sweep in the 50 breaststroke, swimming a personal best time (29.82) and recorded season best times in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.83) and the 50 free (25.64).
Junior Tiffany Martz led Pepperdine off the diving boards for the second time this season, scoring 228.85 points in a combined 1- and 3-meter six-dive springboard competition. Martz’ teammates Kristin Scribner (216.65), Leslie Wade (192.50) and Jenna Tenwolde (219.15) also finished among the top five.
Pepperdine returns to action the weekend of Nov. 6 and 7, competing at the Bronco Shootout hosted by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. This meet originally was supposed to take place at UC Irvine.
