June Rosemary Korb

Malibu resident June Rosemary Korb passed away on Oct. 3 at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks. She was 83 years old.

June was born June 20, 1932 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash. She graduated from Wenatchee High School where she was active in the Girls Club Cabinet, the Purple & Gold Pep Club, Spanish Club, Future Teachers of America, the Wa Wa Art Staff, Drill Team, Pantherettes secretary and was the Big “W” winner in sports, including the Tennis Team. June was also vice president and a member of the National Honor Society.

Early on, June was in the Horizons Girls Club and spent afternoons working in hospitals helping wounded war men. She earned a scholarship for college and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in physical education. Not only did she graduate with honors, but she was also elected to Phi Kappa Phi National Scholastic Honorary in her senior year.

After college, June was park supervisor for the Wenatchee Summer Recreation Program. She then began teaching in Chelan, Wash., and later moved to Long Beach for her next teaching assignment. There, according to a loved one, she was set up on a blind date and fell in love with William Korb. The couple married on Aug. 24, 1957 and moved to New York where they raised four kids — Kathy, Judy, John and Paddy. There, June coached the St. Mary’s Basketball program and was a Girl Scout Troop leader.

Bill, June and their kids moved from New York to Malibu in 1971 and resided on Point Dume.

“The Korbs’ house was always filled with fun, family and friends,” a loved one shared. “They all enjoyed camping, sports and traveling.” June was also an awarded artist and was active in her church and community. She was known as “Rosie” by many.

June is survived by her children John, Judy (Cuff) and Paddy (Warner), and her five grandchildren Amanda, Steven, Ryan, Matthew and Ethan. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Kathy, and her husband of 58 years, Bill, who recently passed on June 8, 2015. A memorial service will take place at Malibu Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.
