Authorities investigating death of Clark Gable Jr.’s girlfriend
The girlfriend of Clark Gable Jr. was found dead by Gable in the couple’s home at the 30600 block of Morning View Drive the morning of April 11, officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. said. The cause of death of 41-year-old Christiane Candice Lange is currently unknown, but Los Angeles County coroner’s office spokesperson Ed Winter told the San Francisco Chronicle Friday it appears to be a possible natural death and foul play is not suspected. Lange reportedly worked as a makeup artist. Gable, an actor and racecar driver, is the only son of legendary actor Clark Gable. He was born after his father died in 1960 of a heart attack at age 59.
Unconscious person airlifted from Point Dume
Firefighters transported an unconscious person in a helicopter from a Point Dume home to a nearby hospital Monday afternoon, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials confirmed Tuesday. The L.A. County firefighters were dispatched at 3:28 p.m., arrived on the scene at 3:32 p.m. and began transporting the unconscious patient at 4:02 p.m. Further information about the person’s condition has not been released.
Owner of biker hangout Rock Store dies
Ed Savko, who ran the legendary biker hangout Rock Store on Mulholland Highway for more than 50 years, died April 2 of heart failure at age 86, according to multiple reports.
Savko bought the little stone roadside diner in 1961 with his wife Veronica. Buoyed first by the patronage of movie star and motorcycle enthusiast Steve McQueen, the Cornell diner soon became a hangout for many bikers and celebrities alike. It became a destination for motorcycle enthusiasts around the globe and was featured in many films and magazines.
Restaurants, food trucks headed to Malibu Pier
Two new restaurants will open at the Malibu Pier later this summer where the Beachcomber and Ruby’s used to be, according to a press release. The Beachcomber closed in December 2011 and Ruby’s Shake Shack closed prior to last summer. The Malibu Beach Supply Co. is currently the only business in operation on the pier.
In the meantime, trucks will be on hand at the pier every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning April 18. The trucks will offer a variety of food items like sandwiches, salads and tacos.
City to host community-serving business seminar
The City of Malibu will host a public seminar, titled “Strength in Numbers,” to support local community-serving businesses, at city hall May 12 at 9:30 a.m.
The seminar is led by the nonprofit American Independent Business Alliance and is intended to address the interests involved with local community-serving business and establish a coalition to stimulate local business and the economy.
“The purpose of the seminar is to educate and provide participants with a solid understanding of keys to successful local business alliances and best practices for a range of activities and campaigns,” a press release from the city states.
The public is encouraged to attend the free event.

Adamson House docent training starts Tuesday
The Malibu Adamson House Foundation is hosting a seven-week docent training course for volunteers interested in conducting tours of the historic Adamson House and the Malibu Lagoon Museum. The training sessions will take place Tuesday evenings from April 24 through June 5.
During the training course, participants will learn about the history of the 1930s house and early Malibu, as well as how to conduct effective public tours. Docents are expected to commit a minimum of eight hours per month to give tours to the public. In addition to the minimum commitment, many other volunteer opportunities are available.
