More misses than hits

The impudence of a buffoon attempting to defame Ozzie Silna in last week’s “Letter to the Editor” is truly disturbing and that it was published is an exercise in bad taste. For years Ozzie has been one of the most generous Malibu residents fighting for the common good of the residents, supporting its schools, environmental organizations and the Malibu Coastal Land Conservancy.

As a resident in proximity to the Civic Center, concerned about continued traffic problems and infrastructure, he actively opposed the 2000 “Development Deal” and the 2003 Measure “M” for a sewage plant on the Chili Cook-Off property, all the while in favor of a park. This City Council has come to the acquisition of the Chili Cook-Off property for a park, “kicking and screaming all the way.”

Let’s recall some of the haphazard decisions this City Council made since 2000. Put aside the extraordinary amount of time and resources this City Council spent on the numerous efforts to commercially develop the Chili Cook-Off. This City Council spent over $1 million of our taxes to fight the Coastal Commission, almost another million to try and re-write the LCP as an “amendment,” gave a two-year moratorium on permits, and what did it get residents? Nothing! Remember the 2001 baseball field bond measure “K” debacle; the recent missed opportunity to expand the baseball fields at Bluffs Park; the barriers that closed Civic Center Way by Webster School which caused the month-long traffic jam on PCH; the million dollar grant for the run-off treatment system in the Civic Center that hasn’t materialized in four years; the false promises for a dog park; firing two Planning Commissioners for allegedly violating the Brown Act; the Trancas settlement agreement with which this City Council obviously violated the Brown Act that now they are arguing the Appellate Court’s unanimous decision; variances squandered that caused numerous law suits; no real changes to PCH safety.

This pure political pollution must stop.
