Cooke’s Family Market to close

Employees at Cooke’s Family Market were informed earlier this month through a company memo that the Point Dume Plaza grocery store will close on Dec. 15. There are many rumors about what will be replacing Cooke’s, but none of them could be confirmed.

The Point Dume Plaza was recently purchased by developer Zan Marquis. Many have speculated he has plans for a major redesign of the shopping center.

Prescribed burn scheduled for Malibu Creek State Park

A prescribed burn at Malibu Creek State Park will take place on July 12 or 13, weather permitting. The burn unit is approximately 25 acres and is located west of Las Virgenes Road. Suzanne Goode, an environmental scientist with the California Department of Parks and Recreation, said the burn will help with restoration management of native grasslands and protection of the historic Sepulveda Adobe within the area.

American Red Cross desperate for blood

The American Red Cross issued a blood supply alert for Southern California on Monday, citing a critically low blood level on hand locally and severe shortages of blood collections across the nation.

Malibu Arts Festival coming soon

The 35th annual Malibu Arts Festival will take place at the Malibu Civic Center on July 29 and 30. More than 200 exhibits, food from local restaurants and live music are expected for the event.

Local nonprofit to hold weekend art events

The Wright Organic Resource Center will hold the Art With the Land Workshop on Saturday and Sunday.

The Saturday event will be an opportunity to use watercolor and collage with help from watercolor artist Mary Wright. The event costs $50 per person, with all the proceeds benefiting the nonprofit Resource Center on Piuma Road.
