The Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis will hold its annual Butterfly Garden Party fundraiser at a private home in Big Rock on Sept. 13.
The coalition has a mission to accelerate research efforts leading to a cure for pulmonary fibrosis and to support those with the disease along with their families and doctors.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a terminal lung disease for which there is no treatment or cure. It kills as many people annually as does breast cancer. Anyone can get pulmonary fibrosis and incidence rates are rising. Those with the disease usually live less than three years and die by suffocation. Pulmonary fibrosis gets less federal funding than any disease of its kind.
The Butterfly Garden Party will take place at an estate with spacious, spectacular gardens on the low bluffs overlooking the ocean, with Queen’s Necklace and white water views. There will be gourmet food, open bar, and live entertainment. Other features will include a professional artist facilitating a community mural painting, a henna artist decorating guests and a tarot reader sharing insights.
There will be an opportunity raffle for prizes of vacations and jewelry. Also, there will be a jewelry trunk show in the great room of the home, featuring two jewelers who are donating 30 percent of their sales proceeds to the coalition. Additionally, there will be a butterfly release, with each guest releasing a live monarch butterfly into the migration path in which the home resides.
The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $200 each and can be purchased through Deirdre Roney, event chair, at 310.456.6319 or roneycadarette@cs.com. To learn more about what the coalition is doing to cure pulmonary fibrosis, visit www.coalitionforpf.org.
