Malibu’s James Cameron is king of the world.

When Malibu Seen moved to Malibu some 20 years ago, a blockbuster followed me. It was a $200 million romantic disaster epic called “Titanic,” which went on to become one of the biggest flicks of all time. Malibu’s James Cameron became “King of the World” with a slew of golden statues to take home.

The ill-fated voyage and doomed love story aboard the RMS Titanic was cinematic genius. At the time, the Titanic was the largest moving object ever built and clearly marked the difference between elaborate first class and dreary steerage.

The extravaganza was written, co-produced and co-edited by Cameron who took home a whopping 11 Oscars. It also made mega stars out of a young Leonardo Di Caprio, who became a household name, as well as Kate Winslet and Billy Zane—not to mention Celine Dion’s haunting refrain: “My Heart Will Go On.”

NIGHT FEVER AT 40

The polyester, the wide collars, the flashing colorful dance floor, the mirror ball and, most of all, John Travolta in his white suit and black shirt… The shoes, the swagger, the Bee Gees sound track: All of this made “Saturday Night Fever” the iconic film of the 1970s. It is celebrating a 40th birthday.

A BLAST INTO THE BOX OFFICE

Speaking of all-time blockbusters, “The Last Jedi” kept the “Star Wars” passion alive and as strong as ever. The film hit $220 million on its opening weekend. The mega space epic becomes the No. 1 debut of 2017. The second best opening of all time. The force continues!

HERE’S JOHNNY

Fashion moguls Caroline and Sidney Kimmel have put the former pad of Johnny Carson up for sale for a head-spinning $81.5 million. The longtime Malibu resident and host of the “Tonight Show” died in 2005 at 79. He bought the Point Dume estate in 1984 for $9.5 million.

The Kimmels snagged the estate and two adjacent parcels from Mrs. Carson in 2007 for $46 million.

The palatial estate sits on a bluff of about four acres. It was built in 1978 by renowned Malibu architect Ed Nils.

The home boasts 7,083 square feet of living space including a living room with a copper and glass sunken fireplace, a chef’s kitchen and 30-foot-high glass ceilings. No doubt it was a place fit for a king—or a legendary king of comedy.

S.S. CALL HOME

He’s one of Malibu’s best known and talented names and a hero in Hollywood. Happy birthday to Stephen Spielberg. Have a great 71!
