This comes under the heading of “You can’t make up this stuff.” The Regional Water Quality Board and its staff has admitted in public and for the record that they relied on a scientifically disproved method of how to measure fecal indicator bacteria in the water for recreational standards.
This was the board’s basis for establishing the Malibu Civic Center septic ban. That’s right folks! Those who are on Malibu Road, the Knolls and at OLM and Webster schools are going to be prohibited future remodeling and additions on the basis of an antiquated test procedure that was thrown out by a Federal Court as not reliable. In the Federal Court decision, the US EPA agreed to find a replacement method by 2012 by undertaking a series of strategic research projects.
Leading the charge of this apparatchik nonsense at the Regional Water Quality Board was Malibu’s own Madelyn Glickfield. Ms. Glickfield has a long record of service to environmental causes in California and specifically in Malibu. I wonder if she would be willing to prohibit future remodeling of her home in Malibu using the same obsolete and defective criteria for her septic system that she is championing for others? You really can’t make up this stuff, which makes me believe that we should start paddlin’ Madelyn home.
