Officials announced the long-awaited reopening of the California Incline will take place on Thursday, Sept. 1. Vehicle traffic can begin to use the connector starting at 5 p.m., while pedestrians and cyclists can test the roadway between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to the City of Malibu.

The incline was closed for a total of 17 months — three months longer than original estimates and two months longer than revised estimates released in December. In addition to being made seismically sound, the new incline includes features such as bike lanes and a new pedestrian overpass.

The California Incline was 86 years old when it was torn down in April of last year to make way for a new, safer rebuild. The project was estimated at nearly $17 million following the addition of a $1.9 million pedestrian overpass to the plan.
