Opening of Malibu Stage play delayed
Due to the ill-health of one of the lead actors in “Entertaining Mr. Sloane,” the play’s opening night is being postponed to Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets purchased for performances prior to that day can be exchanged by calling 310.589.1998.
Ethan Flower will replace Mark Lindsay Chapman in the role of Ed for the Joe Orton black comedy being directed by Malibu Stage Co. co-founder Charles Marowitz. Flower is a graduate of the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, and has had an extensive film and stage career.
Gibson sells Broad Beach property
Actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson recently sold his Broad Beach mansion for a reported $30 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. The 7,000-square-foot home contains six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a wine cellar, lagoon pool and a cabana.
Gibson’s main residence is in Serra Retreat.
Outdoor movies in Malibu
The family classic “Mary Poppins” will be screened at Bluffs Park on Saturday as part of the annual CineMalibu series. The event begins at 8 p.m. The screening is free, with refreshments available for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets.
On Monday, the documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car?” will be shown at the Malibu Pier. Prior to the movie, former Assemblymember Fran Pavley and environmental activist Susan Jordan will speak. The free event, which will also have refreshments for sale, begins at 7 p.m.
Book fair to take place
The Friends of the Malibu Library will hold its book fair on Aug. 11 and 12. The annual event supports the library’s youth activities, Summer Reading Program and Women’s Month, plus purchasing of best sellers, reference books, periodicals and audio-visual materials.
Hundreds of books will be on sale. Hardbacks and oversized paperbacks cost $1. Paperbacks are 50 cents. Videos and book tapes are $1 and up.
The Book Fair takes place on Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the Friends of Library allowed entrance at 9 a.m.
Membership can be purchased at the door beginning at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 12 is Bargain Day, with hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
