Perfect week in the water

The Malibu High girls water polo team (14-6, 5-0 in the Tri-Valley League) went a perfect 3-0 last week, dominating the competition while scoring more than 20 goals in each game.

The Sharks’ first game was Wednesday against Villanova Prep on the road, which they won by a score of 23-1. Junior Searra Silverberg led the Sharks with eight goals, seven steals and eight assists. Alex Dossett added six goals, and Maggie Lawson contributed five. Goalie JoJo White, along with allowing only one goal, had seven blocks for the Sharks. Their win kept their undefeated league play record intact at 3-0, and a 12-6 record overall.

The Sharks next played rival Oaks Christian at home on Thursday, and won an impressive shutout, 21-0. The Sharks started the game strong, pulling ahead in the first quarter 8-0, and going into the half up 12-0. This time, the Sharks were led by senior Rachel Whittemore, who, with five goals, six steals, and five assists, was named the game’s most valuable player. The Sharks also saw strong performances from Silverberg, with three goals, seven steals and three assists, as well as Dossett, with five goals, seven steals and two assists. White had eight blocks and three steals, as well as an assist.

The Sharks’ third game in three days was against Carpinteria at home, and was an easy 20-2 victory. Silverberg had had a season high 10 goals, as well as seven steals for the Sharks. Dossett contributed four goals, and Maggie Lawson added two goals and had seven steals.

The Sharks will compete at the Coronado Tournament Thursday through Saturday. They return home on January 30 to take on Cate School. The varsity game begins at 3:15 p.m. and the junior varsity squad will play an hour later.
