I noticed in last week’s news that the Malibu Bay Company (MBC) is trying to change Malibu forever by changing Malibu’s General Plan to accommodate their massive commercial development, which cannot be done unless the General Plan is changed.
On Saturday morning, at 10 a.m., March 22, the Planning Commission plans to discuss nine amendments proposed by MBC to change our City’s General Plan to accommodate their development. The outcome of this public hearing may not only facilitate the planned MBC “Development Deal” with the City, which allows for a monstrous amount of traffic in our Civic Center area (that’s already overburdened with too much traffic), but it may also give the MBC the right to increase their development rights throughout Malibu by more than 50%, all in exchange for an artificially inflated “deal” that prices their Heathercliff property at $16 million, where the city plans to place two baseball fields.
Of course they’re not telling you that an assessment district would have to be formed for their treatment plant in the Civic Center area to treat the waste from their commercial development, which we taxpayers and our families will have to pay for, for the rest of our great grandchildren’s lives. Furthermore, they plan to discharge their wastewater into the creek and ocean.
The MBC PR propaganda machine has managed to propose a deal that gives them over 50% more in development rights for all their properties in exchange for two baseball fields and a community center. A carrot that has a stranglehold on the wants of the baseball moms and their valuable vote. What do you think should be done? It’s really up to us because it’s the Malibu General Plan which protects and preserves Malibu’s majesty and rural character. I hope to see you at the meeting.
