Jordan not to run for SMMUSD seat
Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board Member Mike Jordan formerly announced he will not seek re-election in November due to previous health problems. Jordan had said he would not run during a board meeting last month, but made it official this week.
“My service as a board member was interrupted in the fall 2002 by two surgeries, including open heart surgery,” he wrote in a press release. “Though I am fully recovered and doing fine, my doctors and my family are urging me to take a break from board service and reduce a little stress.”
Jordan is also a professor at Pepperdine University, where he teaches journalism and media law. For several years, he has been the director of the student publications at the university, but this year he will be vacating his position as director, also because of the health concerns.
This is Jordan’s first term on the board. Malibu resident Kathy Wisnicki will be running for one of the three seats up for grabs in November.
