The Malibu Times announces the 2006 Citizens of the Year Dolphin Award winners

The following people and organizations were chosen to be honored for their outstanding contributions to Malibu’s community life. Biographies and more complete descriptions of their service to Malibu will be published at a later date.

John Paul and Eloise DeJoria-The DeJorias have donated land, time and much more to the community of Malibu, helping to preserve its unique way of life.

Jo Giese-Giese is the spearhead behind the Malibu Green Machine, which serves to beautify and “green” Malibu beginning with the weed-overgrown medians of Pacific Coast Highway.

Kay Gabbard-Director of Malibu Methodist Nursery School, Gabbard is the mastermind behind the annual Cook’s Tour, which raises funds that provide scholarships for families who otherwise might not be able to send their children to nursery school.

Sherri Latta-Latta started the preschool and after-school program, the Children’s Creative Workshop, at Point Dume Elementary School, and has tirelessly devoted herself to helping others, especially children.

Dede Solis-Solis is a preschool director at the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue. She is honored for her energy and commitment to the Malibu community and to its children.

David Lyons/Scott Tallal-Lyons and Tallal were instrumental in organizing CineMalibu, which brought free outdoor screenings of feature films to Malibu during the summer.

Steve Soboroff, Richard Green, and Michael Koss-Soboroff, Green and Koss have contributed greatly to the enrichment of the city of Malibu.

Malibu Legacy Project-Many Malibu residents contributed to the project, which raised funds to help purchase the Chili Cook-Off site. This award honors all who contributed.
