Safety on Pacific Coast Highway will be discussed at two public meetings on May 7 and May 9 as a part of the City of Malibu’s PCH Safety Study.
The city, along with the Southern California Association of Governments, is conducting the safety study to examine road conditions, accident patterns, and identify traffic conflicts, according to a release from the city. At the end of the study, the city will make recommendations for improvements along the highway. The city is requesting the public’s input to help identify the safety issues and find solutions.
Both meetings will take place at Malibu City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Rd., at 6 p.m. The meetings will have the same content, so residents can attend either meeting.
Three people have been killed in accidents on PCH in Malibu in 2013. Last week, 21-year-old Sarah Salam was struck and killed by a limo while crossing the highway near Moonshadows. On Feb. 26, Luis Adolfo Olmedo, 53, died after being hit by a car while crossing the road after fishing at El Pescador State Beach. About two weeks earlier in February, 45-yearold tow truck driver Ronald Carver, was killed in an alleged hit-and-run on PCH while assisting a car on the shoulder.
