To all those who voted against Measure M, this message is short and sweet. Vote against Jeff Jennings and Ken Kearsely. These gentlemen were front and center in attempting to ram this ill-advised development deal (emphasis on “deal”) down ourthroats. You wisely rejected the “deal.” You should now reject Jennings and Kearsley. In the March 25 issue of The Malibu Times, Kearsley is quoted as saying “the current council turned the city ship around.” They haven’t turned it around, they’ve sunk it and we desperately need new Malibu-friendly officers on the bridge.
The current council’s decisions are so blatantly developer-friendly (particularly the Malibu Bay Company) that one is forced to speculate that backhanders are involved somewhere. Their mishandling (deliberately?) of the recent Trancas over-development is another example of either their total ineptness or deliberate flouting of the desires of the electorate,
Malibu is already commercially overdeveloped. We need to preserve as much open space as possible, that’s why we moved here. Jennings and Kearsley proclaim to want the same, but their actions and voting record clearly tell a different story. They voted to rush Measure M onto an early ballot (thereby costing taxpayers more money) so that they wouldn’t be running for re-election with Measure M on the same ballot. Does this seem like an act of honest men who believe in and stand by what they are saying, or an act of dishonest and cowardice? You decide.
Remember, we are still stuck with two sitting pro-development council members who fired their Planning Commission representatives because they dared to express their own points of view rather than toe the party line. We desperately need three fresh minds to swing the balance of power back to a caring, nurturing council who will fight to protect what we all love about our “home.” Keller, Liebig and Mazza are those three. You may not agree with everything each man says individually, but collectively they’re our only hope. Two of them, Keller and Mazza, have entered the race because our situation is desperate. They realize that Malibu needs help. They are performing a true act of civic accountability.
