Malibu’s Top Ten Book List

Two local Malibu authors shoot straight to the fiction bestsellers list: T. Cooper and W. William Winokur. Raised in Malibu, Cooper moved to New York and wrote her first novel, published to rave reviews: “Lipshitz Six, or Two Angry Blondes.” William Winokur followed an opposite trajectory, from New York to Malibu, where he wrote his first novel “Marathon,” just out and selling very strongly.

In nonfiction, two books on creativity have hit the list: Anna Deavere Smith’s thoughtful book addressed to cultural workers of all kinds, “Letters to a Young Artist,” and the paperback edition of dancer/choreographer Twyla’s Tharp’s hardcover bestseller, “The Creative Habit.”

For children, two books connected to local treasure Dick Van Dyke top the list. New series books round out the list, so keep an eye out for: “The Clique,” “The It Girl No. 1” and “Babymouse.”
