FERGALICIOUS FLING
It was a Glamorous night indeed as Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas rocked the Conga Room in Downtown L.A. to raise money and awareness for their Peapod Foundation, which provides kids with educational outlets and unites the world through music. The benefit concert, generously sponsored by The Adobe Foundation and Adobe Youth Voices, was a who’s who of hipsters in the music scene.
Slash went formal for the affair, sporting a proper topper, as did pal will.i.am in a classic bowtie. Rihanna favored pirate attire with a skull and cross bones, mini and swashbuckler boots-Aaargh!
Fergie has barely had a break since her Malibu wedding to actor Josh Duhamel, but she seems more energized than ever.
The musical extravaganza opened with the Peas’ performance of “Pump It” and was followed by Fergie and Slash crooning “Sweet Child of Mine.” Other featured performers included Boyz II Men, Warren G, Lupe Fiasco, Nikka Costa, Solange and Mix Master Mike.
The Peas also had special thanks for L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was presented with the Pod’s special Leadership Award. The unforgettable event raised a whopping $1.2 million. Now that’s music to our ears!
BACKSTAGE PASS
Malibu beauty Roma Downey is gearing up for her big night at the Geffen. Roma and hubby Mark Burnett, who’ve been big supporters of the playhouse, will be hosting the annual “Backstage at the Geffen Gala” on March 9. Les Moonves, CEO of CBS, and multitalented Rita Wilson will be feted at this year’s affair.
The intimate evening of behind-the-scenes laughs, stories and anecdotes benefits the Geffen education and outreach programs, which bring the joy of live theater to kids and communities across L.A.
CAL SCIENCE CENTER – CSI
It’s almost time for one of the most creative parties of the year. Super sleuths will be donning their tuxes, gathering their clues and making the scene-the crime scene, that is.
It’s all part of the California Science Center’s Discovery Ball, which takes place on March 7. This year’s theme is CSI: The Experience.
Gala goers will be asked to solve the mystery of a 4-19 DB (that’s “dead body” in crime speak) who turns out to have been a beautiful Vegas showgirl. Now it’s up to Science Center supporters as they put their investigative skills to the test over cocktails and canapes.
We’ll also get a VIP peek at the center’s latest exhibit, which explores the fascinating world of forensic science.
There will be an after-party following the ball, with the likes of locals Bill and Cheryl Chadwick. Bill just finished his fifth year as chair of the Science Center and has been on the board for more than a decade. It’s sure to be a memorable night of mystery and merriment. Ten-four. Over and out.
