The hot and dry weather looks like it will continue for the foreseeable future in Malibu and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Warning for Southern California, with low humidities and warm temperatures expected to continue to bring elevated fire risk throughout the region through Wednesday.

On Tuesday “there is the potential for brief critical fire weather conditions as offshore winds peak,” according to the NWS.

Locally gusty northeast winds will also affect Los Angeles and Ventura counties Tuesday and early Wednesday.

A Beach Hazards Statement has also been issued by the Weather Service, with moderate to high surf expected on area beaches through Wednesday. The surf is expected to be highest on west-facing beaches.

Surf of 3 to 5 feet is expected with local maximum sets to 8 feet through Wednesday. The elevated surf is likely to produce strong rip currents and sneaker waves, which are capable of washing swimmers into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches, especially during high tides.

Caution should be used when in or near the water. Beachgoers are advised to swim near lifeguard towers, never swim alone and if caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shore.
