Letters not funny

Sharon Barovsky and Andy Stern promised to run a clean campaign. Obviously, they didn’t mean it. Anyone involved in Malibu politics knows the long and close relationship they have with their political operative, Lloyd Ahern. Four years ago, I helped Barovsky and Stern get elected and personally witnessed Mr. Ahern’s close working relationship with these two candidates. Even though they have been a big disappointment to so many citizens as council members and provided the reasons I am running for city council, I have always respected their right to their points of view.

So far, Lloyd Ahern has written two of the most disgusting letters I have seen in a very long time. This behavior insults every Malibu voter and degrades our political process. It simply has no place in any campaign.

My positions are openly shown on my website and other public communications. I have filed my required financial report with the city and it reports the facts. I have not received a contribution from Ozzie Silna, but I welcome his and any other contribution from concerned citizens up to the maximum of $250, which is an amount that I assure you will not “buy” me.

When compared to their letters, it is obvious how the incumbents are distorting my message beyond any reason. There is a proper way to disagree, but the Barovsky/Stern campaign has lowered itself into the realm of shame. I can assure all Malibu citizens that no matter what your beliefs are, I will never allow any of my campaign team to engage in this grossly inappropriate behavior. I am sure the same is true for candidates Ryan Embree and Ed Gillespie.

Mr. Ahern’s last comment was, “Let’s not lose our sense of humor.” Unfortunately, this is not about losing humor, it’s about losing dignity and integrity. Mr. Ahern, you have lost both.
