Santa comes to Malibu

The city of Malibu Parks and Recreation Department will present its annual Breakfast With Santa on Saturday at the Point Dume Marine Science School Auditorium. The school is located at 6955 Fernhill Drive.

There will be two seatings, at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The cost is $5 per person or $15 for a family of four. Tickets can be purchased at Bluffs Park, at the door, or on the city’s Web site, www.ci.malibu.ca.us. For additional information, call 310.317.1364.

City offers winter programs

The city of Malibu Parks and Recreation Department is offering a variety of activities during the winter break. The events are for children ages 4 to 11.

Children ages 4 to 8 can take part in “Holiday Goodies” on Dec. 22 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The program includes making food they can share with the family. “KidzArt Winter Workshops” will take place for children ages 5 to 8 from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5. One-day sessions are available, and the programs take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The “Holiday Siblings, Cousins, and Best Friends Camp” for children ages 5 to 11 offers daily hands-on activities designed to strengthen the bonds in their relationships and encourage them to work as a team. The program takes place from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Chanukah celebration returns

Chabad of Malibu will host its annual Chanukah celebration at Malibu Colony Plaza on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The festival will include live music, potato latkes, donuts, Chanukah crafts and a grand menorah lighting. There will also be a giant Lego menorah on display and a chocolate dreidel fountain. For more information, call 310.456.6588

ERB applicants needed

The city of Malibu is seeking applicants for Planning Manager C.J. Amstrup’s appointment to the Environmental Review Board. The term of the appointment is four years.

The ERB meets approximately once a month and is comprised of seven volunteer members. It includes qualified professionals with technical expertise in biological resources (marine/coastal, wetland/riparian protection and restoration, upland habitats and connectivity), geology (coastal protection devices, slope stability, onsite wastewater treatment), architecture or civil engineering and landscape architecture (fuel modification, planting of wildland edges). In addition, ERB members are required to be knowledgeable about the city of Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains.

The ERB, with the city biologist, reviews development within or adjacent to designated environmental sensitive habitat areas.

The deadline to submit an application and resumé indicating expertise in the required is Jan. 31 at by 5 p.m. Application forms are available at City Hall, located at 23815 Stuart Ranch Road and on the city’s Web site, www.ci.malibu.ca.us. For more information, call 310.456.2489.
