I want to report a situation that has been going on for some time and keeps getting worse. Residents on Latigo Canyon have been subject to a disturbance on weekends. I live on Latigo Canyon and I truly love the nature that surrounds me. It is, most of the time, serene up here; it is quaint, quiet and we have magnificent views. Yet what happens on most weekends, the motor bikers use our canyon as a racetrack? They race like a bat out of hell on the straightaway, lean into the curves in such a way that oncoming traffic could maim them, and, as we have seen many times, often have terrible, even fatal accidents.
It is a threat to all the neighbors, a threat to the safety of the children living here and, on top of it all, it is a real peace disturbance. The motor bikes’ noise is so loud at times, that when I want to listen to music or watch a show on TV, I cannot hear the sound. I have called the West Hills sheriff stations numerous times. The challenge is that the sheriffs apparently are not in charge of Latigo, or so I am told. I get the sense that “this situation” seems to be too complicated and maybe not “interesting” enough for anyone to make a change. Yet, something really needs to be done. When I first moved here 16 years ago, it was not like this. What we as residents have to endure is way beyond anything “normal.”
I would love to talk with the city about this. I am willing to make myself available to create a situation that will be a win-win for everyone. It is a free country and the bikers would like to enjoy nature. However, not at the cost of someone else’s quality of life. Anyone wanting to back out of the gate or driveway during the races risks getting hurt or possibly unintentionally hurting the bikers. This has been going on for so long. What will it take for the city to hear us and listen? There have been numerous fatal accidents up here in the last few years. Let’s not lose more lives. Let’s find a way to create more peace in our neighborhood. I can be reached via phone or e-mail: 310.589.5682 or Barbarababsibassill@gmail.com. I’ll be glad to talk to anyone willing to help.
