Local talents Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo, Dick Van Dyke and Brad Garrett are teaming up this Friday to bring a night of holiday fun and laughter at the Malibu Performing Arts Center in the show “Angels for Change,” with proceeds benefitting the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation.
The foundation offers free programs for homeless, at-risk and low-income youth and their families in Los Angeles.
Benatar and Giraldo will perform a special acoustic holiday set, and members of the Malibu High School Choral Department will also perform.
Benatar is a four-time Grammy Award-winning singer best known for her mezzo-soprano vocal range and establishing herself as one of rock’s top vocalists and one of music’s top-selling female artists with hit songs such as “Love is a Battlefield,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “We Belong” and “Heartbreaker.”
She is one of the top-selling female artists of all-time, and one of the 1980s Top Platinum Album Recipients, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, with six platinum and four gold albums to her credit. Giraldo, lead guitarist and musical arranger for the Benatar band since the seventies, started playing the guitar at age five and has been performing live since he was 12 years old. He is credited with having composing and producing most of their albums.
Garrett is well known for his role as Robert Barone on the popular comedy show “Everybody Love Raymond,” for which he won three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He is currently starring in the half-hour comedy series “Til Death” with Joely Fisher on FOX, now in its fourth season.
Van Dyke has a long and storied career, from his many roles in family musicals such as “Mary Poppins,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and “Bye Bye Birdie,” which launched his musical career on stage, earning him a Tony Award in 1960, to the television show “Diagnosis Murder,” which relaunched his career in the 1990s.
“Angels for Change” will take place Saturday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. at The Malibu Performing Arts Center, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road. Seating is limited. Tickets are $50, $75 and $100.
