From the desert to the sea, the Globes to the Oscars and everything in between, Hollywood is going for the gold.

Film festivities began in Palm Springs and the stars turned out to shine. Local famous faces like Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks and U2’s the Edge took center stage. Likewise, there were accolades as well for Meryl Streep, who accepted this year’s Icon Award. She recently appeared with Julia Roberts in “August: Osage County.”

Then it was on to the People’s Choice Awards where Malibu’s TV titan Mark Burnett returned to run the show.

Neighbors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Matthew McConaughey have critics all abuzz.

Leonardo and pal Martin Scorsese are just two of the big names circulating for top honors for “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Matthew McConaughey has been said to have delivered the performance of his career in “Dallas Buyers Club.”

The same goes for “The Blind Side” Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock for her role in the out-of-this-world space drama “Gravity.” The popular actress was presented with several People’s Choice Awards.

Sweet Sandra picked up PCA awards for Favorite Movie Actress, Favorite Comedic Movie Actress and Favorite Dramatic Star. Together with the gorgeous George Clooney, she snagged another top prize as part of the Favorite Movie Duo in “Gravity.” The gala took place at Nokia followed by a slew of awards, including the Golden Globes.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned to host the 71st Golden Globe Awards in Bev Hills to much acclaim.

“12 Years a Slave” and “American Hustle” led the motion picture nominations with seven nods each. Both films were nominated in their respective Best Picture categories and did not come away empty handed. Longtime locals like Leonardo DiCaprio won for “The Wolf of Wall Street” as did Matthew McConaughey for “Dallas Buyer’s Club.”

Critics have called this the best awards season in years with acclaimed films like “12 Years a Slave,” “Captain Phillips,” “Gravity,” “Philomena” and “Her.” There are also critical darlings like “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Nebraska,” “Saving Mr. Banks” and “American Hustle.”

Oscar categories, including Best Actor, are sure to be nail-biters. It all leads up to the biggest night of all in March. The whirlwind is enough to make you go dizzy, so keep those ballots close and good luck to all!
