The Pepperdine women’s track team wrapped up its indoor season with an exciting performance at the two-day UW Invitational and a few broken records for the program.

Freshman Emma Engelland lowered her own mark in the 60-meter hurdles, running them in 9.72 seconds and senior Gabrielle Ellis matched her PR set in the race, running 7.81 seconds. Freshman Talya Holenstein also broke the program’s record during the invitational, becoming Pepperdine’s top runner in the 400 meters.

Freshman Samantha Maness became the second Wave to run the 5,000 meters — just after Katie Engel — and after this past weekend’s performance holds the school record of 19:18:43. Freshmen Bri Wilson, Izabela Garcia-Arce, Grace Palmer and Cori Persinger are Pepperdine’s first team to compete in the distance medley, and will go in the books with a time of 13:10:35.

“It was a really outstanding competition up here with some future Olympians in the field,” Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said in a statement provided to The Malibu Times. “It was a very strong, competitive event and a good one for us to close out the indoor season. This will really get the sprinters ready for the outdoor season, which begins in three weeks.”

Runners won’t be resting now that the season is wrapped — the Waves kick off the outdoor season with a Westmont-hosted tri-meet, including UC Santa Barbara, on Saturday, Feb.18.
