Daniel Villefort, a Malibu resident for 20 years, is “honored to be working with exceptional individuals in a collective goal for Malibu” through his numerous volunteer services.
Villefort’s volunteer career began in an effort to help Malibu against wild fires, a decision that soon led him to join the organization Arson Watch. Villefort later served as a Director of Friends of Arson Watch and Disaster Services (FAWDS), a recognition he considered to be an “honor.” When the Malibu Volunteers on Patrol (VOP) civilian police program was established in 2010, Villefort immediately offered his services to then-Mayor Laura Rosenthal and then Pro-Tem Mayor Lou La Monte. VOP members patrol Malibu in a city-issued vehicle, helping identify suspicious activities, crimes in progress or other dangerous circumstances and report to the proper authorities.
Villefort is the team leader for VOP, so named by the Lost Hills Sheriff Department in another distinguished honor.
Daniel’s efforts don’t end at the office; he extends his efforts at home as well. He opened his home to the Lost Hills Sheriff ’s stations, the Malibu VOP, the local fire station, and City officials in an effort to discover how these teams can work most effectively together to ensure Malibu’s safety.
Daniel sacrifices money, time, sweat, and tears for his volunteer organizations, stopping at nothing to help the local Malibu community.
“The amount of time, energy, and effort Villefort donates as a volunteer to make our City of Malibu safer goes far and beyond the norm and he deserves to be recognized for all of his hard work, thousands of donated hours and selfless endeavors,” says Denise Villefort.
One of his many selfless endeavors included Daniel personally replacing four tires on a sheriff’s car after they had been vandalized on Thanksgiving morning.
When asked what inspires him to keep Malibu safe, Daniel said, “at some point there is a realization that ‘family’ extends from the immediate family to the ‘family of community.’ Especially when there is a crisis, the need for the community joining together is pronounced…a form of ‘all hands on deck’ is needed. I’m proud to be one of the team members serving Malibu.”
