Pepperdine women’s swim and dive team player Julianna Chan swam the 100-meter individual medley race to a time of 1:00:09—exactly three-tenths of a second fast than the previous 1:00.39 university record—at the National Invitational Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 16.
The previous record time was also set by the Pepperdine senior at the 2019 Pacific Coast Swim and Dive Conference Championships last month.
Saturday’s championships marked the end of Chan’s swim career at the university. Pepperdine junior Anna Riekhof also competed at the championships, coming in at a time of 2:24.18 for the 200-meter breaststroke race.
In an online statement, head coach Joe Spahn said, “It was fun to watch Julianna finish her Pepperdine career with another school record. She has been a tremendous leader this year and put her all into her senior season … Julianna and Anna competed with a purpose this weekend on a national stage.”
