My name is Richard Carrigan. As you may know, I was a member of the Malibu Planning Commission and serve as chairman. I actively opposed Measure M, which would have ratified the misguided development agreement with the Malibu Bay Company, and I have spoken strongly against overdevelopment in Malibu. I am sending this message as a concerned citizen of Malibu. Following are the three candidates for whom I will be voting in the forthcoming, April 13, election, along with the reasons why I support them.
Walt Keller, a resident of Malibu for 43 years. One of the founding father of the city of Malibu, Walt has served the city with dedication and passion. He has committed himself to the vision and mission statements as articulated in the City of Malibu General Plan: “Malibu will maintain its rural character by establishing programs and policies that avoid suburbanization and commercialization of its natural and cultural resources.” He joined me in opposing measure M. He will protect the environment.
John Mazza, a resident of Malibu for 32 years. During the four years I served on the Planning Commission, John attended virtually the meetings, either as an observer or a participant. John cares deeply about Malibu, and will add diversity and balance to the city Council. John opposed Measure M and he will be tough on development. John Mazza is write-in candidate.
Ken Kearsley, a resident for 42 years. He is unquestionably a hard-working individual who has dedicated a lifetime of service to what he sees as the best interests of the community. Though Ken and I have disagreed on a number of important issues, such as Measure M, which he supported, he never once interfered with me as I tried to do what I thought was best for Malibu while I served on the Planning Commission. For that, Ken will have my eternal respect and admiration.
If all three of the above are elected, we will establish a balance in the City Council that the citizens of Malibu need and deserve.
Richard Carrigan
