Malibu’s Roma Downey has been one busy lady since her “Touched by an Angel” days. The multitalented actress and producer has been on a roll—and there’s more to her story. She’s happily married, raising a wonderful blended family as well as a stable of Irish Wolfhounds (what else?) and, together with her TV titan husband Mark Burnett, she carefully crafted first-class updates of “The Bible,” “A.D.” and “Ben-Hur,” among others.
Now, she is putting pen to paper in a new tome called “Box of Butterflies.” The cover is a kaleidoscope of color with Roma in angelic white releasing a burst of butterflies in every color of the rainbow.
Knowing Roma, it should come as no surprise that its pages are filled with artistic, uplifting and inspirational stories designed to discover the unexpected blessings all around us.
There is a lot to learn from this deeply spiritual lass from Derry, Ireland. Her story has touched many hearts and lives around the world.
Roma’s butterfly tales are divided into stories with subjects from strength to kindness to courage. If you are feeling on top of the world or maybe even low, this could be the perfect bedside reading book.
The couple’s good friends, Rick and Kay Warren, pastors of the Saddleback Church, summed it up this way: “This book is classic Roma Downey … full of life and love, hope and inspiration, joy and kindness. Reading it is like sitting down with Roma for a cup of tea and conversation then leaving encouraged and lifted up.”
Roma said her inspiration for the book comes from true-life events.
“It is my prayer that each page of this book there is a butterfly for you,” Downey wrote.
As for the origins of the book, she writes, “When I was a young girl of 10, a butterfly appeared at my beloved mother’s grave for the first time. Since then, butterflies have always been a reminder to me of God’s constant presence … Each poem that I have chosen or quote or image selected will remind you that, although we sometimes feel alone, we are never truly alone.”
The spectacular little treasure is dedicated to her beautiful daughter Reilly, “a little girl who grew up to be my best friend.”
Congratulations, Roma, may a beautiful Monarch always come your way!
