ALWAYS IN FASHION

Neiman Marcus in Bev Hills was the place to be as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles hosted its annual Accessories for Success Spring luncheon and fashion show. It was a colorful affair with plenty of colorful locals on board.

Actress and model Amber Valletta emceed the stylish event, and Jeffrey Katzenberg also took the stage. What was a heavyweight honcho like Jeffrey doing amid a sea of ladies who lunch? The DreamWorks Animation SKG CEO was on hand to present the Excellence in Mentoring Award to his pal and colleague Anne Globe, who is the Chief Marketing Officer for DreamWorks Animation SKG. The afternoon’s other honoree was Sharon Harroun Peirce, board director of BritWeek and LA’s BEST.

Prior to the luncheon, an Accessories Boutique featured a fashionable array of eye-catching baubles, bags and scarves in every color of the rainbow. It was a great excuse to shop, especially since a portion of proceeds went to benefit BBBSLA. Too-cool-for-school vendors included 2 Gems, Accessor Eyes, Bed Head, Classy Bag Lady, Gourmet Blends, Jacqueline B, KeikiCo, Moonlite, Over The Top, Pamela Brown, Park Vogel, Shelley’s Closet, Treasured Accessory and Vilaiwan Fine Jewelry.

Then it was on to the awards with words of praise all around. “Both of our honorees have demonstrated a long-standing commitment as role models for civic involvement and at-risk youth. We are honored to celebrate these remarkable women for their generosity and myriad contributions to our community,” said Tiffany Siart, president and chief executive officer of BBBSLA. “We are proud of the transformative change each of our honorees makes possible every day with our children, helping them to achieve their full potential.”

SKG’s Anne Globe is responsible for overseeing theatrical marketing, consumer products and promotions for all DreamWorks Animation properties. She is currently a mentor with The Hollywood Reporter/Big Brothers Big Sisters Women in Entertainment Mentoring Program.

Actress Jeri Ryan presented the Innovator Award to Sharon Harroun Peirce. Her LA’s BEST after school program serves 28,000 elementary school children in some of Los Angeles’ neediest neighborhoods. In 2011, she organized a children’s literacy project for LA’s BEST, as part of the annual BritWeek program, which she also helms. The project gave libraries of books to over 80 schools and created an essay competition in which eight 11-year-olds each won a trip to London.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles is dedicated to empowering children, ages six through 18, who face economic, emotional and social challenges. It aims to change lives through a variety of mentoring programs.
