Every few years around awards time, the biggest names in Hollywood turn out for “An Unforgettable Evening” to benefit the Women’s Cancer Research Fund.
In keeping with tradition, Malibu will be well represented.
Designer-turned-film-director Tom Ford will be feted this year, along with Judy and Leonard Lauder, in what promises to be a splashy bash hosted by Tig Notaro.
This year, the Women’s Cancer Research Fund honorary chairs include Rita Wilson with her “Scully” hubby Tom Hanks, and Kate Capshaw and her out-of-this-world better half Steven Spielberg. They’ll join co-founders Anne Douglas, Quinn Ezralow, Marion Laurie, Kelly Chapman Meyer and Jaime Tisch.
After a three-year hiatus, the event returns to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and will benefit the fund, a program of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Hosted by comedian and breast cancer survivor Tig Notaro, the evening will include a first class feast and a glitzy awards presentation. Renowned fashion designer and film director Tom Ford will accept the 2017 Courage Award for his continued support and dedication to raising awareness for the disease. Ford recently teamed up with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal for the thriller “Nocturnal Animals,” which created quite a critical buzz around town. The Nat King Cole Award will be presented to Judy and Leonard Lauder for their charitable works and contributions.
Saks Fifth Avenue has pitched in too, presenting An Unforgettable Evening for the 13th time. Over the last 18 years, Saks has donated nearly $40 million to cancer research and treatment organizations throughout the United States, helping people to live longer and lead more memorable lives.
DIVING INTO DIVERSITY
After the “Oscars so white” controversy last year, the colors they are a-changing — not only for Oscar nods, but guild awards as well.
At SAG, Denzel Washington picked up the top prize for “Fences.”
Viola Davis also won for her role in the film. But the night’s biggest winner was “Hidden Figures,” a historical drama about the uncelebrated black women who helped NASA launch the space program. The predominantly black cast won for best ensemble.
On the television side, best ensemble went to “Orange is the New Black” and Sarah Paulson won for “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss took home another statuette for “Veep.”
So, congrats all around!
