GOING GREEN!
They’re gearing up to go eco with Global Green’s upcoming 16th Annual Millennium Awards at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica. The green carpet will roll out this Sat., June 2 for the event, which “recognizes individuals whose lives embody Global Green’s mission of fostering a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure world.”
This year’s Entertainment Leadership Award will be presented to Ed and Cathy O’Neil, while Mike Sullivan will receive the Community Environmental Leadership Award.
The festivities got off to an early start with Global’s annual Oscar party a few months ago. The focus of both events is to raise funds and awareness about the national green schools initiatives, as well as the upcoming 20th Anniversary Earth Summit in Rio this June.
Global Green president Matt Petersen has also announced the kick-off of an online Citizen Entrepreneur Contest to identify local Green Heroes.
“Global Green is calling for the local green heroes who are tirelessly working to make their communities healthier and greener,” said Petersen. “We invite Americans to nominate a student, teacher, architect or community activist greening their corner of the world, and to call on President Obama to represent our future by attending the Rio+20 Summit in Brazil in June.” For more than a decade, Global Green has collaborated with the Hollywood community to raise global awareness of Smart Climate Solutions—from celebrities driving green cars to building green homes and schools, buying green products and voting for green political leaders.
IT’S A SCREAM!
Malibu’s Robert Downey Jr. has dominated the box office with his blockbuster “The Avengers” (the film was number one for weeks, knocking out the competition and pulling in close to $1 billion worldwide). But in addition to action heroes, there’s lots of nostalgia to be found. Kids from the ’60s and ’70s have been getting a campy blast from the past. First came Johnny Depp in the remake of “Dark Shadows,” which gave boomers a chance to relive all those original vampire tales. Now, there is another familiar stroll down memory lane, this time on stage. Snap your fingers twice and think of the creepy, cooky, mysterious and ooky Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Uncle Fester and the gang are hitting the Pantages Theater next month. This time, daughter Wednesday wants to marry and everyone must meet the parents. Now that’s scary! It’s also a musical so expect a cross between “The Bird Cage” and “Rocky Horror Picture Show.” The fun-filled fright night runs through June 17.
