Longtime Malibu resident Julia “Judy” Kimble passed away on Tuesday, March 24 at her home in Malibu with family by her side. She was 83.
Born Jan. 18, 1932 in Donnellson, Iowa, Judy was one of nine children and moved with her family to Wasco, Calif. in 1946. She graduated from Wasco Union High School in 1950 and went on to attend Knapp College of Nursing in Santa Barbara where she became a registered nurse.
Judy married film and television editor Robert Kimble in 1955 and moved to Malibu in 1962, where the couple raised their family of four boys. Bob and Judy were active members of the Point Dume Yacht Club and often sailed with their family. She worked as camp nurse at Camp Bloomfield for Junior Blind of America from 1956 to 1963. During the 1970s and ’80s, she worked as a nurse and as a member of the front office staff at several Malibu schools.
A volunteer with the Malibu Township Council, Judy was hired to work part-time as one of the city’s office assistants for administrative services after the City incorporated. She worked for the City for 20 years and retired on March 20, 2013.
“Devoted to her family and friends, Judy was loved by all who knew her,” a loved one shared. She enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Malibu United Methodist Church, the Malibu Garden Club and the Malibu Art Association.
She is survived by her sisters Alice, Lillian and Ruth; sons Thomas, Lee, Kenney and Regis; her foster daughter Marleny Serrano, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor Judy’s life will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 at Malibu United Methodist Church, 30128 Morning View Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Judy’s memory to Junior Blind of America’s Camp Bloomfield.
