Malibu’s Top Ten Books

Hot summer books are arriving every day in hardcover and paperback. In hardcover, Lisa See’s latest, “Shanghai Girls,” tops the list, along with great new books by Michael Connelly, Elmore Leonard and Lee Child. In paperback fiction, “Netherland,” “The Proof of the Honey” and the trash read of the summer, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” are all perfect for the beach and plane. In nonfiction, Alice Waters’ universal ideas of an “Edible Schoolyard” and Goleman’s “Ecological Intelligence” are both brilliant and timely. For children’s books, Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” and “A Little Princess” make two classic summer reads, one contemporary and one Victorian.
