No mom alone

She just had to get out of the house. In line at Coffee Bean she struggled holding her toddler in one arm, and her wallet in the other. Juggling all these things she managed to grab her credit card from the slot in her wallet and handed it over apologetically to the cashier. Who knew that being a mom would feel so hectic?

The rush of the cars down PCH made her feel lonely for the quiet streets back home. Where was she supposed to meet other moms and friends who were up for a play date and maybe a little moral support?

Like a breath of fresh air, that day she met a mom at the playground who told her about the moms groups at Malibu Presbyterian Church. At last, a place she could come to find the community, support, and friendship.

Malibu Pres is committed to building a foundation for the families of our community. We believe that a better world can be created when no family goes at raising children alone, but knows what it is like to have a community surrounding them in love through the good and bad times.

Mommy and Me meets weekly on Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-11:30am. We play, make friends, sing songs, make art projects and sometimes go on fun field trips! Our doors are open to moms and their children from infants to 3-year-olds. It’s a great place where moms (and some dads, too) bring their children in a laid back and safe indoor environment.

In addition, MOPS meet other once a month on Fridays for brunch, and there is a new group, called GROW, for moms with elementary age children, which meets once a month on Thursdays.

It’s important to take time to reflect, to question, to share insights with each other as we journey together and raise children who will be confident, compassionate, loving and kind.

A few years later, the mom at Coffee Bean stood in line at the grocery store, confidently handing her credit card to the cashier as she loaded her groceries into the cart. She heard a familiar voice behind her in line. Turning her head, she spotted a friend she’d known from MOPS. Their children are now in first grade, and they’d moved on to different elementary schools not running into each other anymore at preschool. She reached out to this friend, squeezed her hand and said, “I miss you. You should join me at GROW.”

In a world that can feel busy and consuming, it’s nice to live in a community where you feel known and understood. We hope you’ll join us for one or more of these great mom communities.
