Wrong perspective

I always look forward to coming home to Malibu and visiting my family and friends, especially around holiday season. One of the events I like to go to – mainly to see old friends – is the yearly picnic for the volunteers. I thought I arrived too late this year but then discovered that the city decided not to have one this year due to their budget. I wonder why they couldn’t come up with another plan, perhaps have a smaller version at Legacy Park or Bluffs Park or the area where the Farmers Market is.

I thought that this put a bad light on the city and wonder what the publicity person does. I would think that something like this would have been caught by the public relations person and presented to the city in a better way, some way to show that the city is appreciative of the volunteers.

Then I read that the city plans to move the dais to the tune of $25,000 to make better angles for the camera! My goodness, doesn’t that sound self-serving! This makes it seem that the city doesn’t care about all the volunteers in the city, but when it comes to getting a better camera angle they are ready to spend 25K. I think getting a real camera person with another video camera would be cheaper. It’s too bad that the vision for that building they bought did not include leaving the audio equipment and using some of the facilities for recording studios. This would have brought in money!

It also would have given the city a venue for performing arts and the walls could be covered with beautiful art. There are so many other ways that they could have generated money into the city.

The coverage in the local papers makes one feel

that the city cares nothing for the people of Malibu, just for some good camera angles.
