I was asked to introduce Michael Klein to Ozzie Silna, for the purpose of a possible donation to Urgent Care. This contribution, if made, was to remain anonymous. Any agreement by Mr. Klein and Mr. Silna was to be disclosed only to the board of Urgent Care. Silna, who was involved in the campaign against the Malibu Bay Company development agreement, stated, “I did not want to compromise my position as being opposed to the agreement.”
He was interested in helping the community; many local organizations have been the beneficiary of his philanthropy. He made an anonymous donation subject to one condition, that the Bay Company agreement not be linked to Urgent Care. Klein acknowledged the neutrality request was part of the deal and said “he honored Silna’s request.” (Malibu Times, 2/12/04.) The deal between Silna, Klein was that the Urgent Care board and Mr. Klein as chair, maintain a neutral position on the development agreement. Silna was told that if this agreement was broken, he would refund all payments and issue a public apology.
April 24, 2003, The Malibu Times ran a full page ad in which the Urgent Care supported the development, signed by Michael Klein, board chair. In addition, the City Council meeting of July 22, 2003, quotes Mr. Klein as asking the council to give serious consideration to the development agreement which respect to Urgent Care. (The Malibu Times, 2/12/04).
These monies were given with an anonymity agreement. Any disagreement should be between Mr. Silna and the board of Urgent Care. The release of this private information (Urgent Care has already received $25,000) is slander and possibly libelous. The political zealots of this city will do anything to try and undermine those that are only interested in making this city a better place to live.
