A PARTY TO DIE FOR
With 3,000-plus people, it wasn’t the most intimate gathering in the world, but the MGM bash for Pierce Brosnan’s new flick, “Die Another Day,” was a killer.
It seemed like half of Malibu turned out at the Shrine Auditorium with Cindy Crawford, Randy Gerber, David Foster, Linda Thompson and Dr. Frank Ryan among the many high-profile minglers.
The thrills-and chills-began at the blue carpet, which led to a 40-foot-long carved ice bar. As the paparazzi popped away, there was time for a quick shaken-not-stirred martini before showtime.
After watching Mr. B and beautiful Halle Berry light up the screen, the gang made its way to the adjacent exposition hall, which was decked out like a hip, London disco complete with cobalt blue laser lights and massive white fabric cubes.
“I love playing James Bond, but I’d really like to be the real thing,” Brosnan mused. Well, even if he can’t nab our global bad guys this go ’round, he is happy with his latest endeavor. “This role has been one of the best yet and I am really proud of the film.”
As the party took off, it was getting close to departure time for Brosnan, who is about to jump the pond for Jolly Old. London was selected as the location for the movie’s world premiere.
While the Shrine shindig was filled with studio heads and corporate kings, Bond’s next bash will be fit for a queen, with Elizabeth II set to be among the 007 fans. I say!
FROM MEAN STREETS TO EXECUTIVE SUITES
Malibu’s John Paul DeJoria was the man of the hour at this year’s Chrysalis awards gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The hair-care guru is a role model for the organization, which helps the homeless gain financial independence. His remarkable rags-to-riches story is a source of inspiration for Chrysalis and thousands of its clients.
J.P. was on the streets on two separate occasions before he got a break and an entry level position with a major corporation.
From there, he went on to launch the Paul Mitchell line of hair care products, which boasts annual sales of $500 million.
“I was able to overcome homelessness and financial hardship,” he says of his past. “Now, I hope to help others. Our company is all about giving back because success unshared is failure.”
SIMPLY DIVINE
The fashionistas will be out in force at the Barker Hangar on Dec. 5 for the fabulous shopping fete called Divine Design. The opening night gala honors American beauty Annette Benning as well as the always lovely Lauren Hutton. It will be followed by a four-day shopping extravaganza featuring high-end frocks, foods and furnishings. Proceeds will benefit the fine folks at Project Angel Food.
